Here's a little garden bridge I designed and built in 2 weekends.
It's made of redwood and stained with 3 coats of "Duck" brand red-cedar stain.
I was trying for an oriental effect. It has a single railing so that it can be
used as a bench. At the last Halloween, the kids just loved running over this.

My wife is the great "coordinator" in the family, so something else
had to match the bridge - how about a mailbox post? As I built this, I kept
thinking of Einstein's maxim: "As simple as possible but no simpler".
In a nutshell, that sums up my guiding principle when I design anything.

If you are wondering whether this bridge is strong enough, just check out the
construction - wide side pieces, massive cross members, carriage bolts,....
(Yea, that's one messy garage. It's been cleaned up since.)
